“Wisdom” teeth is the generic term for the set of 3rd molars, so called because they are usually the last teeth to come in during young adulthood. Depending on how your wisdom teeth grow into place it may or may not be necessary to remove them. Sometimes wisdom teeth only partially erupt or come in facing sideways. This often leads to difficulty in cleaning them and makes them subject to tooth decay and infection. Sometimes there is not enough room in the dental arch for the wisdom teeth. In these cases your wisdom teeth are often removed. Wisdom teeth are removed under sedation so that you remain completely relaxed and pain-free during the procedure.
