Onlays are used to repair a tooth that has slight decay on one or more cusps. Onlays are similar to crowns but, where a crown covers the entire tooth, an onlay covers the tooth cusps and biting surfaces only.
The tooth is preparded by Dr. Pham and his team by creating a dental impression. That is then sent to the lab to customize a permanent porcelain restoration that fits precisely over the tooth’s biting surface.
The team will then remove the decay and apply a temporary restoration. When the custom onlay is ready, the temporary onlay is removed and the permanent one is cemented in place.
